An elegant feature tree in medium to large gardens, parks and streets with soft feathery green foliage. Native to Brazil becomes deciduous after leaves become pale yellow in winter. Flowers are purple, bell shaped and flood the canopy in September, October and November depending on altitude and latitude. Seed pods are curvy round and green ripening to a brown pod in late summer that bears the seeds. Can reach a height of 10 - 15mtrs with a similar spread bearing an umbrella shape. Jacarandas can make a magnificent filtered shade tree in gardens.
