Native to Central and South America. Grows in swamps. Often grown with a braided trunk and is a common houseplant. The name money tree refers to its traditional origin story. A poor man prayed for money and found the plant, he then made money from selling the plants grown from seeds.
Grows to 18m. It has large flowers with narrow petals that open like a banana peel.
Grown as an ornamental, supposed to reduce stress and anxiety and improve health and happiness by enjoying the energy the plant provides.
Prefers part shade to full sun, or bright but indirect sunlight if indoors.
