The Cardboard plant is a Cycad native to Mexico. It has a similar growth pattern to a palm, which is why it is also known as the cardboard palm. It has a short, underground trunk, and is usually wider than it is tall, up to 1.3m tall and 2m wide. Grows slowly when young however accelerates as it matures. Its eye-catching leaves will stand erect in full sun and horizontally in the shade.
Altogether an easy to care for, low maintenance plant. Prefers well drained and most soil, and will grow in a pot. Requires full sun to part shade and is tolerant of drought but does not like extreme cold. Prefers tropical/subtropical climates.
The plant is poisonous to animals including humans so should be placed away from animals and young children.
