An evergreen tree native to Asia and growing 3-12m tall. It has small pale white, yellow or orange flowers produced in late summer and autumn, which have a strong fragrance similar to peaches or apricots. A purple/black stone fruit is produced in spring.
The plant is grown as an ornamental. The leaves can be used in tea and other culinary uses. It also has been used in traditional Chinese medicine.
Prefers well drained soil in full sun to part shade.
