This extremely popular fruit tree can grow up to 20m high, but will usually grow to 5m. Originally from Mexico, it is subtropical and does have strong tolerance to frost or wind.
It is fussy with soil and requires very well draining, as well as a high volume of water. Does not like to have wet feet or heavy soils.
The fruit is a large, pear-shaped, berry containing a single seed. Often have biennial crops where they have a strong crop one year and poor the next. The fruit should be matured on the tree but will then ripen off the tree.
Fruits contains Vitamins B, K, C, E as well as Potassium and antioxidants. They are much higher in fat content than most fruit, mostly from monounsaturated fat but also including polyunsaturated and saturated fat, making them highly nutritious and beneficial for vegetarian and vegan diets.
