The achacha is native to Bolivia in the Southern Amazon basin and is an evergreen tree growing up to 10m tall. It prefers tropical/subtropical climates with full sun to part shade and is not tolerant of frosts.
The tree will fruit in summer months from December to mid-March. The fruit has a tangy and refreshing taste described as both bitter and sweet. It is bright orange and grow to 6cm long by 4cm in diameter.
